About the role
An insurance sales agent finds people and businesses who need cover, works out what they need and explains policies in plain language. You prospect, run needs analysis, compare options, close sales and help clients when they make a claim. The panel is checking whether you sell ethically, explain clearly and keep going despite rejection.
How to prepare
- Learn the main policy types the company sells, such as motor, life and property, and who each one suits.
- Practise explaining a policy and its exclusions in plain words without jargon.
- Prepare to talk about how you would find clients, such as through your network, local businesses or referrals.
- Think about how you would respond to someone who believes insurers never pay claims.
- Prepare a story about changing someone's mind through patience and facts.
Common mistakes
- Pushing a policy that does not fit the client's needs to hit a target.
- Hiding exclusions or conditions that later cause disputes at claim time.
- Giving up after the first no instead of following up respectfully.
