About the role
An insurance broking intern supports the link between clients and insurers. The panel wants curiosity about clients' risks, careful comparison of policy terms, dependable follow-up and a willingness to learn technical language without losing sight of the client's needs.
How to prepare
- Learn the difference between an insurer, a broker and the policyholder.
- Revise common policy terms such as limit, premium, deductible, exclusion and renewal.
- Practise comparing two simple quotations in a clear table.
- Prepare an example of gathering information from someone and presenting options.
- Think about how you would track requests sent to several insurers.
Common mistakes
- Assuming the cheapest quotation is automatically best for the client.
- Using insurance terms without explaining what they mean.
- Waiting silently when an insurer has not replied or a deadline may be missed.
