About the role
An HR generalist covers the full range of people work: recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, policies, records and advice to managers. You handle sensitive issues fairly and consistently. The panel is deciding whether your judgement is sound and whether staff and managers will trust you.
How to prepare
- Prepare an employee relations case you handled and how you kept it fair to both sides.
- Refresh the basics of Nigerian labour law, such as contracts, leave and termination.
- Think through how you explain a policy to a manager who wants to ignore it.
- Be ready to describe how you keep employee records accurate and confidential.
- Know your recruitment process from job request to first day.
Common mistakes
- Always siding with management without considering fairness to the employee.
- Sharing confidential details from past cases.
- Giving policy answers with no practical example.
