About the role
This interview tests how you apply petroleum engineering fundamentals to wells, reservoirs and day-to-day production support. The panel is looking for sound assumptions, careful use of data, safety awareness and the ability to explain an early-career recommendation without overstating certainty.
How to prepare
- Review inflow, fluid properties, pressure behaviour, material balance and common causes of production decline.
- Practise interpreting a small table of well rates, pressures and water cut before forming a diagnosis.
- Choose a university or placement project and rehearse its objective, method, assumptions and limitations.
- Revise the field controls used before changing a well's operating conditions.
- Prepare to explain one technical result to a non-specialist operations colleague.
Common mistakes
- Jumping to a single cause of poor production without checking the data.
- Treating reservoir estimates as exact rather than explaining uncertainty.
- Suggesting an operating change without mentioning limits, approvals or safety checks.
