About the role
A garment production assistant helps work move smoothly from material issue through cutting, sewing, finishing and packing. The panel is looking for accurate records, awareness of garment quality and practical judgement when shortages, defects or delays threaten an order.
How to prepare
- Map the main stages of garment production and the checks needed before work moves between them.
- Practise reading and updating a simple production tracker for several orders at different stages.
- Review how fabric, thread, buttons, zips and other trims can be issued and reconciled.
- Prepare an example of spotting a delay or mistake early and communicating it clearly.
Common mistakes
- Reporting that an order is delayed without checking which stage or resource caused the delay.
- Allowing defective pieces to continue through production and create more rework.
- Updating quantities from memory instead of using clear source records.
