About the role
This is a shift leadership interview for restaurant, bar or hotel food and beverage service. The panel is checking whether you can direct the floor, keep the kitchen and service team aligned, protect food safety and account for bills and beverage stock.
How to prepare
- Prepare a concise pre-service briefing that covers reservations, menu changes, allergens and team assignments.
- Review how orders, voids, discounts, cash and transfers should be checked in a point of sale system.
- Think of a guest complaint where you balanced recovery with the facts and your authority.
- Refresh allergen escalation, hot and cold holding and safe service practices.
- Prepare an example of coaching a server or bartender during a difficult shift.
Common mistakes
- Treating the kitchen and service team as separate when timing and information must be shared.
- Guessing about an allergen instead of stopping service and checking the dish.
- Approving unexplained voids or discounts without an audit trail.
- Solving the loudest complaint while losing control of the rest of the floor.
