About the role
An executive assistant manages a senior leader's diary, travel, correspondence and priorities, and often acts as their gatekeeper. You anticipate needs, handle confidential matters and deal with board members, clients and staff. The panel wants proof you can think ahead and protect the executive's time.
How to prepare
- Prepare an example of a time you spotted a problem in the diary or travel plan before it happened.
- Think through how you decide which meeting gives way when two important requests clash.
- Be ready to show how you handle confidential information and difficult people with tact.
- Know your tools for calendars, travel booking and document management well.
- Plan how you build trust with a new executive in the first weeks.
Common mistakes
- Sounding like a task taker instead of a partner who anticipates needs.
- Sharing details about previous bosses that should stay private.
- Having no example of pushing back politely when something does not make sense.
