About the role
A DevOps engineer builds the tooling that gets code from a developer's laptop into production safely and repeatably. That means CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure written as code, monitoring, access control and keeping an eye on the cloud bill. The panel is deciding whether you can make releases boring and reliable while helping product teams move faster.
How to prepare
- Draw one pipeline you built from commit to production and be ready to explain each stage and why it is there.
- Prepare a story about a failed deployment, how you rolled back and what you changed so it would not happen again.
- Have a cost saving example ready, with what you found, what you changed and how much the bill fell.
- Revise how you manage secrets, permissions and environments so you can explain your approach clearly.
- Practise explaining infrastructure as code to someone who has only ever clicked through a cloud console.
Common mistakes
- Naming every tool you have touched instead of showing depth in the few you know well.
- Forgetting the people side: how you helped developers adopt the process, not just how you built it.
- Talking about release speed without ever mentioning safety, rollback or monitoring.
