About the role
This interview covers leadership of architectural design from the client brief to coordinated construction information. The panel is looking for someone who can make sound design decisions, manage consultant interfaces, control late change and maintain quality while meeting programme and procurement needs.
How to prepare
- Map one project from briefing through design development and explain the decisions you personally led.
- Prepare examples of resolving interfaces with structural, building services and specialist designers.
- Review how you plan deliverables, chair reviews and control comments and changes.
- Think of a design proposal you challenged because of buildability, performance or whole-life implications.
- Be ready to explain how you balance client priorities with technical advice and programme constraints.
Common mistakes
- Discussing visual design without addressing coordination, approvals or buildability.
- Accepting late changes without assessing their effect on other disciplines and issued information.
- Using meetings as the solution without assigning owners, deadlines and decision routes.
- Taking credit for a design while leaving your own leadership contribution unclear.
