About the role

A court registry clerk receives filings, updates registers, safeguards case records and helps court users understand administrative steps. The panel will look for accuracy, patience and integrity, especially when the counter is busy or someone asks for special treatment.

How to prepare

  1. Review the basic journey of a document from receipt and checking to entry, storage and retrieval.
  2. Practise checking names, case references, dates, page counts and attachments in a sample filing.
  3. Prepare an example that shows you corrected a record without hiding the original error.
  4. Think of clear ways to explain a procedural issue without offering legal advice.
  5. Be ready to describe how you would protect physical and electronic case records.

Common mistakes

  • Giving legal advice when the role is to explain administrative procedure.
  • Changing a record informally without preserving an audit trail.
  • Promising preferential treatment to calm an impatient court user.
  • Sharing restricted file information before checking authority.
