About the role
This interview tests the practical judgement needed to produce accurate parts on CNC equipment. The panel will look for safe setup, confident interpretation of drawings, disciplined measurement and a methodical response to tool wear, chatter and dimensional drift.
How to prepare
- Review work offsets, tool offsets, datum selection and safe programme proving.
- Prepare to explain a difficult part you machined and the sequence you chose.
- Revise cutting-speed, feed, depth-of-cut and tool-wear decisions for familiar materials.
- Practise selecting measuring equipment for common dimensional and geometric checks.
- Think through how you isolate a machine problem before making a correction.
Common mistakes
- Changing offsets before checking the tool, temperature, workholding and measurement method.
- Describing speed as more important than first-off approval and process stability.
- Accepting a disabled guard or interlock to avoid downtime.
