About the role
A business intelligence analyst builds the dashboards and reports that managers use to run the business. You define KPIs with stakeholders, write SQL to feed reports, keep figures consistent across teams and help people act on what they see. The panel wants confidence that your numbers are right, your definitions are clear and your reports actually get used.
How to prepare
- Pick a dashboard you built and be ready to explain who used it, what decisions it supported and what you would change.
- Practise defining a common KPI precisely, including what counts and what does not.
- Prepare a story where two teams had different numbers for the same thing and how you settled it.
- Revise SQL aggregation, date handling and joins that quietly duplicate rows.
- Think about how you design a dashboard for a busy executive who looks at it for less than a minute.
Common mistakes
- Building crowded dashboards with every metric instead of the few that matter.
- Leaving KPI definitions vague so different teams read the same number differently.
- Never following up to see whether anyone uses the report.
