About the role
This interview tests how you apply basketball rules in real game situations and manage the people around a decision. The panel will listen for judgement on contact, court mechanics, crew communication, fitness and impartial reporting. They also want evidence that you review performances and improve between appointments.
How to prepare
- Review recent basketball incidents and explain each call or no-call from your viewing angle.
- Rehearse how you communicate with players, coaches, partner officials and the scorer's table during tense moments.
- Prepare an example of an error or missed incident and the learning you took from it.
- Review your movement, rotations, recovery and concentration plan for demanding games.
- Check the official appointing body's current rules, mechanics, fitness standards, licence and reporting requirements.
Common mistakes
- Quoting a rule without explaining what you saw and where you were positioned.
- Trying to win every argument instead of managing behaviour proportionately.
- Ignoring crew coverage and communication when discussing difficult calls.
- Writing opinions or emotional language in an incident report.
