About the role
An accounts receivable assistant helps make sure sales become correctly recorded and collected cash. The interview checks whether you can allocate receipts, reconcile customer accounts, follow disputes and respect credit controls while maintaining useful relationships with sales teams and distributors.
How to prepare
- Review the flow from invoice and credit note to receipt allocation, statement and reconciliation.
- Practise matching one payment against several invoices and recording an unexplained balance.
- Prepare an example where you found a difference between two sets of figures.
- Think through how to follow up an overdue account without ignoring a valid delivery dispute.
- Review basic spreadsheet tools for filtering, matching and checking receivables data.
Common mistakes
- Allocating an unidentified receipt to the oldest invoice without supporting information.
- Promising to remove a disputed invoice before the required review and approval.
- Ignoring credit controls because a sales colleague says the customer will pay soon.
