About the role

An Accountability Officer helps affected people understand a response, ask questions, give feedback and raise concerns safely. The interview tests your judgement with sensitive complaints, your ability to design inclusive channels and whether you can turn feedback into visible action without exposing individuals.

How to prepare

  1. Map how an ordinary request, a sensitive complaint and a safeguarding concern should follow different referral paths.
  2. Prepare an example of adapting a feedback channel for people who were not using it.
  3. Review how consent, confidentiality and data minimisation apply to complaint records.
  4. Think through how response times and unresolved cases should be tracked.
  5. Practise explaining programme eligibility without blame or false promises.

Common mistakes

  • Collecting feedback without telling people what will happen next.
  • Recording more personal information than a complaint requires.
  • Promising complete confidentiality when policy requires a serious concern to be referred.
